“… I just do not think the president was telling the truth when he said this program was obliterated.”
Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) on Thursday accused former President Donald Trump of “deliberately misleading the public” after walking out of a classified briefing on recent U.S. airstrikes targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities.
Administration officials detailed last weekend’s strikes aimed at crippling Iran’s nuclear program. Preliminary intelligence cited by CNN suggested the attacks only set Iran back by months, a claim the Trump team strongly rejected, insisting the sites were “completely destroyed.”
Murphy, addressing reporters after the briefing, challenged that narrative: “To me, it still appears that we have only set back the Iranian nuclear program by a handful of months… I just do not think the president was telling the truth when he said this program was obliterated.”
He added: “There’s no doubt there was damage done, but there’s still significant remaining capability. The president was deliberately misleading the public.”
