The rift, which began in October with impeachment threats, has now been formally resolved.
Former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike and incumbent Governor Siminalayi Fubara have formally resolved their political rift following a closed-door meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, facilitated by President Bola Tinubu.
Wike confirmed the reconciliation, saying, “We have all agreed to work together with the governor, and the governor also agreed to work together with all of us. We are members of the same political family.” He acknowledged past tensions but said the impasse was “finally concluded today,” urging supporters to move on. “There’s no more acrimony. There’s nothing to say.”
Fubara described the peace agreement as a “moment of divine intervention,” noting that “peace has returned in Rivers State.”
The crisis began with impeachment threats in October and escalated when the state assembly complex was demolished after a fire. Tinubu intervened in March, leading to Fubara’s suspension and the appointment of a sole administrator, retired Navy Chief Ibok-Ete Ibas.
