“They had to let Ganduje go because he didn’t have the same political clout as Mr Kwankwaso and the president needs Kano to ensure victory in 2027.”
In a dramatic shake-up, All Progressives Congress (APC) chairman Abdullahi Ganduje has resigned, ahead of former Kano Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso’s anticipated defection to the ruling party, The Peoples Gazette reports.
Ganduje’s spokesperson confirmed his resignation on Friday without disclosing details. A presidency source told The Gazette: “They had to let Ganduje go because he didn’t have the same political clout as Mr Kwankwaso and the president needs Kano to ensure victory in 2027.”
Ganduje’s exit has rattled party ranks, raising concerns about APC’s stability before the 2027 election. His tenure was marred by allegations of mismanagement and factionalism.
Tensions worsened when Ganduje declared President Tinubu the 2027 candidate but omitted Vice President Shettima as running mate, fueling internal rifts.
Kwankwaso’s spokesperson confirmed he was on his way to join APC, signalling high-stakes political realignment as President Tinubu moves to consolidate support in Kano.
