A Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, on Friday convicted 14 Chinese nationals for cyber-terrorism and Internet fraud.
A Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, on Friday convicted 14 Chinese nationals for cyber-terrorism and Internet fraud. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) said they were part of a syndicate arrested in a sting operation on December 19, 2024.
According to the EFCC, the suspects were among 792 individuals accused of cryptocurrency scams and romance fraud targeting Nigerians. They were arraigned before Justice Daniel Osiagor on separate charges.
One charge read: “That you, Su Zong Gen, sometime in December 2024 at Lagos… willfully caused to be accessed computer system for the purpose of destabilising and destroying the economy and social structure of Nigeria…”
The defendants, who initially pleaded not guilty, later changed their plea. The court sentenced each to one year in prison or a ₦1 million fine.
Justice Osiagor also ordered their deportation within seven days of sentence completion. Items recovered were forfeited to the Federal Government.
