Jake Paul’s boxing evolution continued with a clear victory over former champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., immediately calling out five big-name fighters post-bout
Celebrity boxer Jake Paul continued his rise in the sport with a convincing unanimous decision victory over former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in a cruiserweight bout on Saturday night in California.
Fighting at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Paul secured the win with judges scoring the 10-round contest 99-91, 97-93, and 98-92 in his favor. The 28-year-old YouTuber-turned-boxer controlled much of the fight against Chavez Jr, 39, who was competing in just his second bout in over three years.
The win marks Paul’s return to the ring following a high-profile exhibition against 58-year-old Mike Tyson seven months ago. With the victory, Paul extended his professional record to 12-1, including seven knockouts, and stretched his winning streak to six.
Following the bout, Paul made his ambitions clear.
“I want tougher fighters, I want to be world champion,” he told DAZN in his post-fight interview. He called out a number of current and former champions, including Zurdo Ramirez, Badou Jack, Anthony Joshua, Gervonta Davis, and Tommy Fury, urging them to “stop running.”
Chavez Jr, once regarded as a rising star in boxing, admitted Paul impressed him. “He’s a good fighter,” he said, though added that Paul isn’t yet ready to face the champions he called out.
