“It’s not insulting to offer him the vice-presidential slot; whether he accepts or not is a different matter,” he said.
Ladipo Johnson, spokesperson for the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), says the suggestion of Rabiu Kwankwaso as President Bola Tinubu’s running mate in 2027 is not far-fetched.
Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Monday, Johnson stated that Kwankwaso, NNPP’s 2023 presidential candidate, remains open to alliances that reflect his values. “It’s not insulting to offer him the vice-presidential slot; whether he accepts or not is a different matter,” he said.
He revealed that some All Progressives Congress (APC) members have reached out, urging support if such an offer is made. “People from the APC have called me to say, ‘Oh, if he is offered, please encourage him to accept.’ But when it comes to the party, it is a team game,” Johnson added.
His comments follow the resignation of Abdullahi Ganduje as APC national chairman and a controversial APC summit in Gombe, where Tinubu’s endorsement omitted Vice-President Shettima. Meanwhile, presidential aide Bayo Onanuga said Tinubu’s 2027 running mate would be chosen after the next APC convention.
