President Donald Trump said Tuesday he would consider deporting billionaire Elon Musk as their feud over a Republican tax-and-spending bill escalates.
“I don’t know,” Trump told reporters at the White House when asked if he’d deport the South African-born entrepreneur. “We’ll have to take a look.”
Musk, a US citizen and Tesla CEO, has harshly criticized the GOP bill for ending a consumer tax credit for electric vehicle purchases.
Trump accused Musk of protecting subsidies that benefit his businesses, warning: “Elon could lose a lot more than that.”
Earlier, Trump threatened on social media to withdraw subsidies from Musk’s companies.
Musk, once a Trump ally and former head of a federal cost-cutting initiative, has called the bill an “insane spending bill” and threatened to help form a third party.
Their public falling out has reignited as Musk continues attacking the legislation, with Trump suggesting federal cost-cutting measures could target him.
