Nigeria’s opposition has formed a new coalition, the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election. The group includes prominent figures like Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Nasir El-Rufai, and Rotimi Amaechi.

Coalition backers cite worsening economic conditions, hunger, insecurity, and democratic decline as reasons for uniting. “We are fighting for the soul of the country,” said Obidient movement coordinator Yunusa Tanko.

The coalition plans to transition into a full political party and present a single candidate. However, analysts remain skeptical about its chances of unseating Tinubu. “Unless the current opposition leaders significantly change their strategy, I don’t see them making much of a dent,” said analyst Baba Yusuf.

Tinubu allies say defeating the incumbent is unlikely. “It’s a tall hill,” said former lawmaker Binta Garba Massi.

Despite record economic growth reports, Nigerians continue to face inflation and hardship. The opposition hopes the ADA will resonate with struggling citizens ahead of 2027.
