The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has been adopted as the coalition platform for opposition forces seeking to unseat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections. On Tuesday, former Senate President David Mark and former Osun Governor Rauf Aregbesola were appointed interim National Chairman and Secretary, respectively. The announcement, made after a closed-door meeting in Abuja, ends months of speculation about the opposition’s strategy.
Key opposition leaders including Atiku Abubakar, Nasir El-Rufai, and Rotimi Amaechi have aligned with the ADC. Originally founded in 2005 as the Alliance for Democratic Change, the party gained prominence following a 2018 endorsement by former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
The ADC has maintained legislative presence and fielded presidential candidates in past elections. Its mission is to combat elite domination and promote inclusive governance. “We aim to build resilient institutions and empower the youth,” a party statement said, reflecting its reformist vision for Nigeria’s future.
