“No one exactly knows what has transpired in Fordow. That being said, what we know so far is that the facilities have been seriously and heavily damaged,” Araqchi said.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said the U.S. bombing of Iran’s key Fordow nuclear facility caused “serious and heavy” damage, in an interview with CBS News broadcast Tuesday.
“No one exactly knows what has transpired in Fordow. That being said, what we know so far is that the facilities have been seriously and heavily damaged,” Araqchi said.
Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization is assessing the damage and will report its findings to the government.
Intercepted Iranian communications obtained by the U.S. downplayed the damage from last weekend’s strikes, according to the Washington Post, which cited four people familiar with classified intelligence.
President Donald Trump claimed the strikes “completely and totally obliterated” Iran’s nuclear program, though U.S. officials say a full assessment will take time.
Araqchi arrived in Lebanon on June 3 to meet Lebanese officials, landing at Beirut International Airport.
