Several family members also died in the attack.
The Hamas-run health ministry has confirmed the death of Dr Marwan Sultan, director of Gaza’s Indonesian Hospital, in an Israeli airstrike on his home in Gaza City. Several family members also died in the attack.
The ministry described Sultan as “a symbol of dedication” and condemned the strike as “a heinous crime against our medical cadres.” The hospital he led was previously declared out of service following sustained damage from repeated Israeli attacks.
The Israeli military said it targeted a “key terrorist” and is reviewing claims that civilians were harmed. Meanwhile, five people, including children, were killed in a strike on the al-Mawasi “safe zone.” A woman at the scene told AFP the strike “shook the place like an earthquake.”
Across Gaza, at least 139 people were killed in 24 hours, according to the health ministry. The Israeli Defense Forces said it regrets harm to civilians and accused Hamas of using civilians as shields.
The BBC has contacted the IDF for further comment.
