Nigeria has been ranked among the top 10 worst countries violating workers’ rights, according to the 2025 International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) Global Rights Index released last month in Geneva.

Other nations on the list include Bangladesh, Belarus, Ecuador, Egypt, Eswatini, Myanmar, Philippines, Tunisia, and Türkiye.

The report warned that workers’ rights are collapsing globally, with Europe and the Americas recording their worst scores since tracking began in 2014.

Just seven countries earned the top rating for respect for labour rights — down from 18 a decade ago.

ITUC General Secretary Luc Triangle said: “The 2025 Index exposes the betrayal of the system built after World War Two… leading to the collapse of workers’ rights.”

He added: “If this pace of decline continues, in ten years there will be no country left in the world with the highest rating.”

The Index was released to coincide with the International Labour Conference underway in Geneva.
