“Prior to trial the court denied bail, and I see no reason to reverse that now,” Judge Subramanian said.
NEW YORK — Hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs was denied bail on Wednesday and will remain in custody until sentencing in October, after a federal jury acquitted him on major racketeering and sex trafficking charges but convicted him on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution.
Judge Arun Subramanian rejected the defense’s $1 million bail package, citing Combs’ history of violence. “Prior to trial the court denied bail, and I see no reason to reverse that now,” he said. Combs has been held at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center since September.
He is scheduled to be sentenced October 3, though lawyers will discuss the timeline at a July 8 hearing. Each Mann Act count carries up to 10 years, though experts predict a shorter term.
Outside court, defense lawyer Marc Agnifilo called the verdict a “great victory,” saying: “They acquitted him of the sex trafficking, which he is absolutely innocent of… today’s a win.”
Prosecutors, however, pushed for continued detention and recommended a sentence of 51–63 months. The trial featured accusations of abuse, coercion, and transporting escorts across state lines.
Combs, 55, was arrested after raids on his mansions and years of allegations, including a $20 million settlement with Cassie Ventura. While acquitted of charges that could have led to life in prison, he now faces years behind bars as sentencing looms.
