Labour Party’s 2023 vice presidential candidate, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, has criticized the coalition aiming to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027, describing its leaders as selfish. In an interview with Daily Trust, Baba-Ahmed said, “I don’t yet see anyone in this coalition who can scheme and plan over 16 years.” He argued that Tinubu’s long-term strategy—supporting Buhari and others over the years—ultimately led to his 2023 victory. “Tinubu gave Atiku the ACN in 2007, Ribadu in 2011, backed Buhari in 2015, and took it in 2023,” he said.
Though denying praise for Tinubu, Baba-Ahmed warned, “To defeat this phenomenon called Tinubu, you must do the unthinkable.” He stressed the need for “less individual ambition and more about Nigeria.”
His remarks come after the coalition adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to challenge Tinubu. The group includes Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Nasir El-Rufai, and David Mark, with Mark and Rauf Aregbesola named as national leaders.
