A 12-year-old boy, identified simply as Wasiu, was killed by a stray bullet during a violent cult clash in the Mushin area of Lagos on Wednesday.

The incident occurred around 8 pm in the Olosha community when rival groups exchanged gunfire, sending residents fleeing.

Wasiu had gone to buy food from a local vendor when he was caught in the crossfire.

“We started hearing sounds of gunshots around 8 pm, and people started running into their homes,” resident Tale Amoo said.

Efforts to take the wounded boy to Lagos University Teaching Hospital failed as the gate was shut and the area was too dangerous to access.

The Vice Chairman of Mushin Local Government, Tubosun Aruwe, condemned the attack.

“The loss of the innocent life of a 10-year-old child is a tragedy that strikes at the very heart of our humanity,” he said.

Police did not respond to inquiries about the attack or arrests.
