A UK-based Nigerian technology leader, Joseph Origbo, is spearheading youth digital empowerment initiatives across Nigeria and the UK.

Origbo, Director at TES Community CIC in Derby and partner at McAnderson Institute of Technology, launched the “Code and Culture Initiative,” blending Yoruba language immersion with HTML coding lessons for children aged 6–14.

The sessions, funded by the National Lottery Community Fund, began in June and will run monthly.

“For many of these children, this was their first time writing code, and they embraced it with so much excitement and curiosity,” Origbo said.

In Nigeria, Origbo’s team partnered with Covenant University’s AfDB Center of Excellence for a major event, “The Future of Work and Remote Tech Careers,” attended by hundreds.

Speakers highlighted remote work, no-code tools, and global certifications.

Origbo said the programmes aim to “prepare youth for international recognition and competitiveness.”

His work reflects the growing impact of Nigerian diaspora professionals in reshaping digital education.
