Tensions in Kano flared Sunday as supporters of deposed Emir Aminu Ado Bayero allegedly attacked the Kofar-Kudu palace of Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II. According to Kano Emirate spokesperson Sadam Yakasai, “They broke the gate and attacked the guards, injuring some of them. They smashed the police vehicles in the palace.” Yakasai accused Bayero of deliberately using a provocative route to intimidate locals and trespass on palace grounds. He also claimed, “37 out of the 38 District Heads have pledged allegiance to Emir Sanusi.”

However, eyewitness Muktar Dahiru, part of Bayero’s entourage, denied the allegations. He described the clash as a confrontation with “unknown miscreants” attempting to block Bayero’s passage. “They were with dangerous weapons,” he said. “Supporters of Emir Bayero had to confront them to clear the way… Emir Bayero made his way unhurt.” Police reportedly intervened using tear gas. Efforts to reach Bayero’s spokesperson or police officials for comment were unsuccessful.
