“The menace of internet fraud among our youth… is a stain on us as a people and as a nation,” said EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede.

EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede has warned that rampant internet fraud among Nigerian youth is damaging the nation’s global reputation and deterring foreign investment.

Speaking through Assistant Commander Effa I. Okim at an event in Asaba, Delta State, Olukoyede said, “The menace of internet fraud among our youth is pervasive and it is a stain on us as a people and as a nation.”

He listed consequences such as a poor national image, loss of investor confidence, collapsing industries, and stifled youth creativity.

Olukoyede urged young Nigerians to reject cybercrime, adding, “Our youths are vibrant, forward-looking, resilient, creative, intelligent — who can hold their own in any part of the world.”

The statement was released Monday by the EFCC.
