The Federal Government on Tuesday paid June 2025 salaries to lecturers and other tertiary institution workers, prompting Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) branches to direct members to resume work.
Chapters had earlier enforced a “no pay, no work” policy over five months of delayed salaries linked to the migration from IPPIS to GIFMIS.
Dr. Haruna Angulu, ASUU chairperson at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, confirmed resumption after payments. Similar memos were issued at Federal University, Kashere and University of Jos.
Minister of Education Dr. Tunji Alausa said the stability reflects “sustained dialogue, mutual respect, and genuine commitment” by the government.
“It is not by coincidence that Nigerian public tertiary institutions have remained open and stable for the past two years,” he noted.
“Our children are the heartbeat of the nation, and their uninterrupted education is non-negotiable. The Federal Government will continue to work closely with all unions,” he added.
