Pat Utomi, professor of political economy, has unveiled a shadow cabinet aimed at offering policy alternatives to Nigeria’s federal government. Speaking after a two-day retreat of ‘The Big Tent’ in Abuja, Utomi named Nana Kazaure (information), Riwang Pam (security), Nike Omola (women and gender development), and Peter Agada (infrastructure) as members. He stressed that the cabinet is not a rival to the APC-led government but will provide expert policy critiques. “The progress of any government is to ensure the welfare of the people,” he told ARISE TV. He argued that legislators should focus on oversight rather than project execution, stating, “to do otherwise is to make them slaves.” Utomi criticized the federal government’s policies on agriculture and infrastructure, advocating for modern tools and state police. He also backed the African Democratic Congress (ADC), calling it a credible coalition. “The coalition is a work in progress, using value-driven projects to move the country forward,” he said.
