Why Arsenal are yet to agree Viktor Gyökeres deal with Sporting CP

Arsenal’s talks for Viktor Gyökeres have stalled as Sporting CP insist on €80m. The Gunners are negotiating a lower upfront fee with higher add-ons.

Arsenal’s pursuit of Viktor Gyökeres has hit a stumbling block, with Sporting CP demanding €70million (£60m) upfront and €10million (£8.6m) in add-ons. The Gunners, however, have reportedly offered €65million (£56m) plus €15million (£12.9m) in performance-based incentives.

After backing out of a move for Benjamin Sesko due to RB Leipzig’s €90million valuation, Arsenal shifted focus to Gyökeres. But similar resistance from Sporting has prolonged negotiations.

Reports from Portugal suggested the deal was close to collapsing, but The Mirror reported a “cooling-off” period was granted, with talks expected to resume.

Arsenal fans have questioned the club’s priorities amid reports of a £50million move for Noni Madueke, even as the striker search intensifies.

Sources say Arsenal remain cautious not to yield to club demands, with multiple negotiations ongoing. Sporting’s firm stance echoes similar cases with Brentford (Nørgaard) and Valencia (Mosquera).

Sporting striker Gyökeres remains a top target, but Arsenal are balancing their budget to accommodate at least three attacking signings this summer.
