Polling units in Ikoyi and Obalende, Lagos, saw delays in Saturday’s local elections, as officials from the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC)  failed to arrive early. By 8:51am, polling stations along Awolowo Road remained mostly deserted, with only a few voters waiting.

At Polling Unit 29 near the Federal Service Club, only one party agent was present, also waiting for LASIEC personnel. In Obalende, election activities were similarly stalled, with some youths playing football in the streets as late as 9:15am.

Security operatives were deployed to manage the situation, instructing residents to dismantle makeshift barricades and maintaining order. Movement was also restricted around the Berger and Awolowo axis for voter safety.

Despite the delays, LASIEC officials and party agents were eventually sighted at polling stations on Odo and Igbo streets in Obalende, preparing to begin voting.
Further details are expected as the election progresses.
