“This development supports our earlier calls for more openness about the health and availability of those in leadership,” IPOB stated.

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has reacted to recent disclosures by former presidential spokesperson Garba Shehu, who admitted that the story of a “rat infestation” in Aso Rock during President Muhammadu Buhari’s prolonged medical leave in 2017 was not entirely accurate.

In a statement on Saturday, IPOB spokesperson Comrade Emma Powerful said Shehu’s remarks validate the concerns long raised by IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, about government transparency.

“This development supports our earlier calls for more openness about the health and availability of those in leadership,” IPOB stated.

The group criticized the initial handling of Buhari’s medical absence, urging Nigerians to reflect on the importance of public trust and access to truthful information.

IPOB further called on the international community to promote good governance across Africa and reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful advocacy.

“Our leader had expressed concern about these issues, and now some of those concerns appear to be acknowledged,” the statement added.
