The facility, about 100 kilometres from Lagos, could rival the Chinese-backed Lekki Deep Sea Port.
Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, is advancing plans to build Nigeria’s biggest and deepest seaport in Olokola, Ogun State.
The proposed Atlantic seaport will enhance logistics for Dangote’s fertilizer, petrochemical, and refinery operations.
“We want to do a major project to bring in more gas than what NLNG is doing today,” Dangote said, referencing Nigeria LNG Ltd.
According to Bloomberg, Dangote’s group filed paperwork in late June to begin construction. The facility, about 100 kilometres from Lagos, could rival the Chinese-backed Lekki Deep Sea Port.
Currently, Dangote exports urea through a private jetty near the refinery. The new port aims to integrate exports and inspire broader investment.
“It’s not that we want to do everything by ourselves,” he added, “but I believe this kind of investment will inspire other entrepreneurs to get involved too.”
Dangote also plans pipelines from the Niger Delta to supply liquefied natural gas exports, part of a drive to generate $30 billion in annual revenue.
