President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday paid his final respects to former President Muhammadu Buhari by bowing before his remains during a solemn funeral ceremony in Daura, Katsina State.

Buhari, who died in 2025 at the age of 82, was laid to rest amid a large gathering of dignitaries, family members, and thousands of mourners from across the country.

In widely circulated images from the event, Tinubu—dressed in blue—was seen bowing before the former leader’s remains, which were draped in the Nigerian national flag and placed on a stretcher.

The ceremony highlighted the deep respect many held for Buhari, who ruled Nigeria from 2015 to 2023 and was regarded by allies as a man of discipline and principle.

Amina Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, described him as “uncomfortable with politics… but he believed in rule of law.”

Buhari’s burial brought together top government officials and ordinary Nigerians in a shared moment of national reflection and mourning.
