Kachikwu claims Atiku’s ambition under ADC proves he does not believe in a southern president. He warns of a “political gang” trying to hijack the party for selfish gain.
Dumebi Kachikwu, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, has accused former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of undermining the idea of a southern presidency. Speaking at a media briefing on Thursday, Kachikwu said Atiku’s interest in running on the ADC platform shows “he doesn’t believe anyone from the southern part of Nigeria is deserving of being president.”
Kachikwu alleged a deliberate campaign to hijack the ADC by individuals “seeking to revive their personal economies.” He said: “There is a lot of deliberate misinformation going on by these agents of destabilisation masquerading as a political coalition… They are truly on a rescue mission, but it is a mission to rescue themselves.”
He also addressed accusations of being a Tinubu spokesperson: “It would be an honour… but unfortunately that’s not who I am.” Kachikwu criticized attempts to bribe ADC officials, labeling the plot a “charade orchestrated” by Atiku to serve his own interest.
