PDP confirmed Obi’s exit was a “major setback” but insists he remains respected within the party.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially acknowledged it is working to bring former Anambra State governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, back into its ranks.
Speaking on Arise Television, PDP Deputy National Publicity Secretary Ibrahim Abdullahi described Obi as “our product” and “a very great capital for any political party,” noting that his return would be a significant boost ahead of the 2027 elections.
“Peter Obi is our product. We want to get him back,” Abdullahi said. He praised Obi’s performance in the 2023 polls where he secured over six million votes, despite what he called “massive rigging” and “deliberate frustration.”
Obi left the PDP shortly before the 2022 primaries and emerged as the Labour Party’s candidate. He finished third, behind Atiku Abubakar and President Tinubu.
Abdullahi added that the PDP is undergoing internal consultations and strategic planning to unify the opposition, and that bringing Obi back is a key part of that effort.
