In contrast, Atiku Abubakar and Rotimi Amaechi, who have resigned from PDP and APC respectively, are deemed eligible by the ADC’s National Executive Committee.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has disqualified former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi from contesting under its platform, citing party constitutional guidelines.

According to Article 8 of the ADC constitution, aspirants must not belong to any other political party. Obi, who has declared interest in the 2027 presidential race and recently aligned with ADC leaders, remains a card-carrying member of the Labour Party.

“Well, that will be made public if he decides to do that. At the moment, he is still a member of the Labour Party,” Obi’s media aide Tanko Yunusa told LEADERSHIP Weekend.

In contrast, Atiku Abubakar and Rotimi Amaechi, who have resigned from PDP and APC respectively, are deemed eligible by the ADC’s National Executive Committee.

The party reaffirmed its commitment to credible primaries: “Nomination of candidates… shall be done by members of the party in accordance with the Electoral Act,” the party said, leaving room for direct, indirect, or consensus options.
