The 15 defendants were charged with conspiracy, armed robbery, and theft of luxury items worth N200 million, including gold jewellery, electronics, and furniture.

A lawyer representing former domestic workers of ex-First Lady Patience Jonathan has condemned the repeated adjournments of their trial, which has now stalled 42 times since 2019.

Funmi Adedoyin, the defence lawyer, lamented that the accused—held at Okaka Custodial Centre, Bayelsa—have remained in detention for six years without substantive progress in court.

The latest adjournments, slated for June 25 and 26, were again stalled due to the June 21 abduction of Justice Ebiyerin Omukoro in Yenagoa.

“We are not happy about these delays… We want them to get justice on time,” Adedoyin said.

The 15 defendants were charged with conspiracy, armed robbery, and theft of luxury items worth N200 million, including gold jewellery, electronics, and furniture.

Family members also voiced frustration. “They didn’t go to court last month… and may not sit in August due to break,” said Gladys Achese, sister to one defendant.

Adedoyin vowed continued legal advocacy until justice is served.
