“We have made our position clear. The ultimatum ends on July 23, and if the FG does not address our demands, we may have no choice but to proceed with a strike,” NMA President said.

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has warned of a nationwide strike starting Thursday, July 25, if the Federal Government fails to meet its demands before the expiration of its 21-day ultimatum.

NMA President, Prof Bala Audu, in an interview on Sunday, confirmed that the association had rejected a circular from the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission revising allowances for federal medical and dental officers.

“We have made our position clear. The ultimatum ends on July 23, and if the Federal Government does not address our demands, we may have no choice but to proceed with a strike,” he said.

Prof Audu described the circular as “obnoxious” and not mutually agreed upon.

He noted that further meetings were disrupted by the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Katsina NMA branch also rejected the circular and warned of disruptions in service if the issues are not urgently addressed.
