APC Chairman Jarrett Tenebe claims Peter Obi is hated in Edo and backs the governor’s threat, saying Obi’s visit has led to deaths. “People like us can be sent on errand out of Edo before he can come,” he added.
The Edo State chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Jarrett Tenebe, has declared that Peter Obi is not welcome in Edo, claiming the former presidential candidate is widely hated and that his visits have coincided with unrest.
“I think the governor was right… because of the kind of hatred that people have for Peter Obi in this state, including me,” Mr Tenebe said, backing Governor Monday Okpebholo’s earlier threat.
He warned that Obi must obtain clearance before entering Edo. “People like us can be sent on errand out of Edo before he can come and possibly go,” he said.
Mr Okpebholo had earlier warned, “He cannot come to Edo without telling me… his security will never be guaranteed.”
The comments have sparked backlash. Human rights lawyer Femi Falana urged the governor to retract his statement, citing constitutional violations of Obi’s right to life and free movement under Section 33 and Article 4 of the African Charter.
