Minister Nyesom Wike has ridiculed Peter Obi for serving food at an event, calling it deceptive and not presidential. He also backed Edo governor’s demand for Obi to seek security clearance before future visits.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has criticised former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, for serving food at a recent event, calling the act “a show of shame.”

Speaking Tuesday at the commissioning of the New Edo Line Transport Service in Benin City, Wike said, “This is not where a presidential candidate will begin to serve food… Who told you that is humility?”

He accused Obi of deceiving Nigerians, adding, “When he was governor, was he serving food?”

Wike also supported Edo Governor Monday Okpebholo’s warning to Obi to seek security clearance before visiting the state. Okpebholo had linked Obi’s previous visit to unrest that reportedly led to four deaths.

“If Peter Obi wants to come here, he should seek proper security clearance,” the governor said earlier.

Wike backed the stance, saying it prioritises public safety. “You didn’t say, ‘Don’t come.’ But people play politics. They give people money to go on television and twist facts,” he added.
