Wike described Obi’s gesture as deceptive and theatrics aimed at misleading Nigerians.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has criticised former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, for serving food at a recent event.
Speaking on Tuesday at the commissioning of the New Edo Line Transport Service in Benin City, Wike described Obi’s gesture as deceptive and theatrics aimed at misleading Nigerians. “This is not where a presidential candidate will begin to serve food. No! No!! How long will he be serving the food?… Who told you that is humility?” Wike queried.
He also questioned Obi’s claim of using commercial flights, saying, “Which security personnel will allow you?”
Wike backed Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, who earlier warned Obi to obtain security clearance before visiting the state. Okpebholo had linked Obi’s last visit to unrest that allegedly led to four deaths.
Wike defended Okpebholo’s stance, saying, “You didn’t say, ‘Don’t come.’ But people play politics… and twist facts.”
He said proper security protocols were necessary for public figures, especially during election periods.
