The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, is poised to emerge as the new national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) during today’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, multiple sources told Daily Trust.

Nentawe, a technocrat and Christian from Plateau State, is reportedly President Bola Tinubu’s preferred candidate. “The body language of President Tinubu has given Nentawe a significant edge,” a party official said.

The choice is seen as a strategic move to pacify North Central stakeholders and balance the Muslim-Muslim presidency of Tinubu and Vice President Shettima.

Former Nasarawa governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura remains a fallback option. Critics argue Nentawe lacks deep political roots, while supporters cite his loyalty and administrative record.

“Unless something dramatic happens… Nentawe will be crowned APC chairman,” an associate said.

He is expected to replace acting chairman Ali Bukar Dalori. Nentawe previously ran for Plateau governor in 2023 and served as Resident Electoral Commissioner in Benue.
