More than 50 Nigerians have been arrested by the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) in a coordinated operation targeting cybercrime and suspected human trafficking at McCarthy Hills, Accra.

Assistant Commissioner of Immigration and Head of Public Affairs, M. Amoako-Atta, confirmed the arrests in a statement on Thursday. He said the July 24 operation was based on intelligence that some foreign nationals were illegally residing in the area and might have been trafficked and forced into cyber fraud.

“This operation follows intelligence gathered on the illegal stay of some foreign nationals in the area, some of whom were trafficked into the country and forced into cyber fraud by their facilitators,” Amoako-Atta said.

The raid, conducted in collaboration with other security agencies, also led to the arrest of the property’s landlord believed to have facilitated the illegal activities. The suspects are currently undergoing screening, and further investigations are ongoing.

The McCarthy Hills operation follows a similar raid in April, where 219 foreign nationals, including minors, were arrested at Oyarifa in Ga East Municipality in connection with large-scale online fraud and trafficking.
