A retired Superintendent of Police, Emmanuel Friday Iraborie, has expressed outrage over the ₦2.8 million gratuity he received after 35 years of service in the Nigeria Police Force.
Iraborie, who retired from the Edo State Police Command on July 1, 2024, made his complaint in a video that has since gone viral online. In the footage, he detailed his entitlements and described them as “highly unacceptable.”
He said, “I am SP Emmanuel Friday Iraborie, I retired July 1st 2024. My gratuity lump sum is ₦2,870,451. My pension arrear is ₦706,915. That is unacceptable. For 35 years I served the Nigerian Police, I am given a gratuity of ₦2,870,451.”
The video has sparked fresh criticism of the treatment of retired security officers in Nigeria, many of whom claim they are poorly compensated and abandoned after decades of service.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the Nigeria Police Force nor the Pension Commission had responded to the allegations.
