Nigeria’s Super Falcons defeat Morocco 3–2 to lift WAFCON trophy

Nigeria’s Super Falcons mounted a dramatic comeback to defeat Morocco 3–2 and win the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday.

Morocco struck twice in the first half through Ghizlane Chebbak in the 12th minute and Sanaâ Mssoudy in the 24th minute. However, Nigeria responded strongly after the break.

Esther Okoronkwo reduced the deficit from the penalty spot in the 64th minute. Seven minutes later, Folashade Florence Ijamilusi levelled the score with a clinical finish. Jennifer Echegini sealed the victory with an 88th-minute strike, completing a stunning turnaround.

The Super Falcons dominated key stats with 14 shots—five on target—compared to Morocco’s 10. Nigeria also had 55% possession, completed 280 passes with 69% accuracy, and earned five corners.

Despite the fierce competition, the match saw no yellow or red cards. Nigeria committed seven fouls, while Morocco recorded 12.

The win adds another WAFCON title to Nigeria’s illustrious record.
