THE NEWS
Helena Nelson Ikoi, a multi-talented actress and television presenter recently pointed out 10 of the most dangerous bus stops in Lagos on her Facebook page.. She also went further to state how to stay safe at those bus stops.
Though the list is not exhaustive, as according to her, she only mentioned some dangerous bus stops, her effort will definitely serve as a guide.
The 10 bus stops she noted are:
- Oshodi Under Bridge
- Iyana Ipaja
- Mile 2
- Berger Bus Stop
- CMS
- Ojota Bridge
- Ojuelegba
- Iyana Oworo
- Ajah
- Lekki-Epe Expressway
Other netizens who commended her for what some of them described as a detailed report also added some hot spots such as Ikeja Under Bridge, Iyana Iba, Ikotun, Obalende etc.
A strange similarity connects those bus stops. They are always overcrowded with passengers and vehicles. Criminals cash in on that rowdy situation to feast on potentia unsuspecting victims, mostly visitors regarded in the local parlance as JJC, meaning “Johnny Just Come.”
Another interesting feature of those bus stops is the preponderance of vehicles, both commercial and private and often times they lack traffic control.
They are also filled with traders, hawkers who make brisk business as well as touts, popularly refered to as agberos, who indulge in all kinds of harmful activities such as smoking Indian hemp(Igbo) and quaffing alcohol (paraga).
Acrid smell of Indian hemp and alcohol fill the air at those bus stops.
