Veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie has stated that Igbo men often face challenges in politics because of their cultural stance on loyalty and betrayal.
Speaking in an interview with Afia TV, Edochie explained that “an Igbo man is not a good politician” because he cannot tolerate treachery. “People who are used to politics or the treachery that characterises politics, can overlook a lot of things. But the Igbo man is not constituted to condone treachery a second time,” he said.
He added that once betrayed, an Igbo man cuts ties permanently, making it difficult to maintain political alliances. “The moment you exhibit treachery in your involvement with an Igbo man, they cut you off. That’s it,” he emphasized.
Edochie linked this trait to Igbo culture, where trust is paramount, noting that while it preserves integrity, it often undermines political longevity.
