The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has expelled former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, and barred him from any affiliation with the party for 30 years. In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Araba Aiyenigba, the SDP accused El-Rufai of falsely claiming membership, forging documents, and associating with suspended party leaders to legitimize his status.
“El-Rufai never registered with the SDP at his ward level… yet falsely declared on social media that he had joined the party,” the statement said. Investigations revealed that El-Rufai also publicly aligned with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), violating SDP principles.
“Consequently, El-Rufai has been banished and banned… for a period of 30 years,” the party declared.
The SDP urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to disregard El-Rufai’s claims of membership. The party reaffirmed its commitment to due process, saying, “He should go home to register at his Ward in Kaduna State after passing simple eligibility interview and onboarding process.”
