President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has honoured Nigeriaโs victorious WAFCON team with national awards, cash gifts, and housing.
The 24 Super Falcons players were each conferred with the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), given a $100,000 cash prize and a three-bedroom apartment. Technical crew members received $50,000 each.
During a reception at the Presidential Villa on Monday, Tinubu also received the 10th Womenโs Africa Cup of Nations trophy from team captain Rasheedat Ajibade and Vice Captain Chiamaka Nnadozie.
The Nigerian Governorsโ Forum reportedly added โฆ360 million in support, with each of the 36 states contributing โฆ10 million.
Tinubu, who admitted he struggled to watch the team’s comeback against Morocco, praised their resilience and patriotism.

The United States government has said it will deny visas to foreign nationals, including Nigerians, who intend to travel primarily to give birth and obtain U.S. citizenship for their children.
In a statement posted Monday via its X handle, the U.S. Mission in Nigeria warned:
โUsing your visa to travel for the primary purpose of giving birth in the United States so that your child will have U.S. citizenship is not permitted… Consular officers will deny your visa application if they have reason to believe this is your intent.โ
The U.S. grants birthright citizenship under the 14th Amendment, but the practice of “birth tourism” remains controversial.
Gunmen Kill DSS Officer in Imo Ambush
A Department of State Services (DSS) officer has been shot dead by unidentified gunmen along the OkigweโUmuna axis in Imo State.
