“Contrary to these claims, the government acted promptly, deploying emergency services and support teams,” Wonosikou emphasized.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has visited flood-hit communities following Sunday’s heavy downpour that claimed 23 lives and destroyed properties worth millions of naira.
During his visit to victims at a temporary camp in Aliyu Mustafa College, Yola, the governor described the situation as “tragic and devastating” and announced the formation of a technical committee to assess the damage. He assured victims that the government would assist in rebuilding and relocating affected homes.
Reacting to criticisms, especially from former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, the Adamawa State Government dismissed claims of inaction. In a statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, it said, “We take exception to the insinuation that Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s administration neglected the people.”
The government insisted that immediate steps were taken. “The Deputy Governor promptly mobilized government agencies… and the State Emergency Management Agency was tasked with urgent relief,” the statement added.
