Man Utd consider move for Nick Pope if Newcastle sign Aaron Ramsdale

Manchester United are reportedly weighing a transfer move for Nick Pope should Newcastle United sign Aaron Ramsdale from Southampton.

Newcastle had targeted Burnley’s James Trafford, but Manchester City activated a £27 million buy-back clause, leaving Eddie Howe to consider Ramsdale instead. Ramsdale, who joined Southampton after being displaced by David Raya at Arsenal, was relegated with the Saints and may be available as they cut costs.

If Ramsdale joins Newcastle, Pope could be allowed to leave, and United are said to be monitoring the situation. The 33-year-old has ten England caps and could challenge Andre Onana, who endured a tough season at Old Trafford.

With Pope’s contract expiring next summer, he could be a cost-effective option. “SunSport understands that United are prepared to start the season with Onana in goal despite his less-than-convincing displays last term.”

Back-up goalkeeper Altay Bayindir failed to impress, adding urgency to United’s interest in securing reliable competition for Onana.
