Hardawa passed away on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, in Abuja after a brief illness, according to a statement from the Governor’s Office.
Alhaji Ahmed Makama Hardawa, Chairman of the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC), has died, Governor Bala Mohammed has confirmed.
According to a statement issued by Mukhtar Gidado, the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hardawa passed away on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, in Abuja following a brief illness.
The statement eulogised the late BASIEC chair as a “distinguished statesman, an accomplished public servant, and a patriotic Nigerian,” noting his sterling record—including his previous service as Resident Electoral Commissioner in Taraba and Nasarawa states.
Governor Mohammed described him as a man of “wisdom, humility, and exemplary leadership,” whose unwavering commitment to credible elections bolstered democratic governance at the grassroots level. Funeral prayers (Janazah) are scheduled for Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. at the Emir’s Palace in Bauchi, according to the statement.
