2027: Rumours of Obi’s PDP return rattle ADC coalition

“Obi’s unpredictable moves are rattling not only the ADC coalition but also the ruling party,” noted political analyst Nduka Odo.

Speculation over former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, possibly returning to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has unsettled the African Democratic Congress, ADC, coalition ahead of the 2027 general election.

The rumours gained traction after ex-Borno Governor, Ali Modu Sheriff, claimed Obi was weighing a PDP comeback to contest its presidential ticket. “Peter Obi wants to be President. Atiku has been Vice President, and for him, it’s President or nothing,” Sheriff told Channels TV.

In response, ADC spokesman Bolaji Abdullahi warned that Obi “cannot take the risk of going to the PDP,” stressing his commitment to the ADC-led coalition.

Obi, however, disowned a statement linking him to the PDP, with his media office insisting, “He has remained focused on his mission but would not accept anybody attributing a statement to him.”

Political analyst Nduka Odo said Obi’s unpredictability is unsettling both the opposition and the ruling APC. “You cannot hold down someone who you don’t know where he stands,” Odo remarked, urging Obi to avoid the PDP, which he described as “a carcass held down by Wike.”

Meanwhile, the PDP has zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to the South, a move widely seen as a strategic invitation to Obi.
