A U.S. federal court in California has temporarily blocked the deportation of Hondurans, Nepalese, and Nicaraguans following the Trump administration’s decision to revoke their Temporary Protected Status (TPS).

“The freedom to live fearlessly, the opportunity of liberty, and the American dream. That is all plaintiffs seek,” said District Judge Trina Thompson in a 37-page ruling. She added, “Instead, they are told to atone for their race, leave because of their names, and purify their blood. The Court disagrees.”

TPS was removed for over 51,000 Hondurans, 3,000 Nicaraguans, and around 7,000 Nepalese, despite ongoing hardships in their home countries.

Thompson criticized the decision as “based on a preordained determination,” suggesting “racial animus” and citing President Trump’s 2024 comment that migrants are “poisoning the blood of our country.” She stated, “Colour is neither a poison nor a crime.”

The judge scheduled a hearing for November 18 to determine the lawsuit’s merits. Deportation efforts remain legally challenged.
