Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has urged Ghanaian authorities to avoid generalizing crimes allegedly committed by Nigerians in their country.

Speaking on Arise News, Dabiri-Erewa reacted to the ongoing “Nigeria Must Go” protests in Ghana, where demonstrators called for the deportation of Nigerians.

She emphasized that while criminal offenders should be punished, it is unjust to label an entire nationality based on the actions of a few.

Citing a past incident, she revealed: “In Indonesia, we had 21 Nigerians on death row. Twenty were from one state in the South-East, and one from Edo State.”

She maintained that “crime has a federal character,” urging the public and media to focus more on Nigerians making positive contributions abroad.

Meanwhile, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and Nigeria’s High Commissioner to Ghana, Ambassador Demola, both called for calm, clarifying that the protest targets specific criminal elements—not all Nigerians.
