A hotel under construction in Edo State collapsed, killing the owner, Mr. Andrew Isesere, and injuring over 20 workers.
A tragic accident claimed the life of hotel owner Mr. Andrew Isesere when a building under construction in Idumoza community, Esan North-East Local Government Area, collapsed over the weekend.
Mr. Isesere was reportedly inside the structure inspecting the roofing stage when the one-storey building gave way. Emergency responders recovered his body from beneath the rubble on Sunday morning.
More than 20 construction workers who were on site narrowly escaped with their lives, though several sustained varying injuries and received first aid from nearby residents before medical assistance arrived.
Local witnesses attribute the collapse to the use of substandard materials and lack of professional supervision. A neighbour, Mr. Andrew Inegbebor, stated:
“He was advised several times about the quality of materials being used. Instead of 16mm rods, he used 12mm. The pillars didn’t even have base baskets. The whole structure was weak.”
Attempts to reach the Edo State Police Command for comment were unsuccessful. The Police Public Relations Officer, Moses Yamu, confirmed he had not yet been briefed.
