“You talk about keeping your promises… but you and I know that’s not true,” the presidential aide said.

The Presidency has dismissed Peter Obi’s renewed one-term pledge as insincere, describing it as another instance in what it called his pattern of broken promises and political inconsistency.

Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga said the Labour Party figure’s vow lacked credibility and raised fresh doubts about his suitability to lead a country as complex as Nigeria.

In a post shared on his verified X account, Onanuga questioned Obi’s sincerity, citing his decision to seek re-election as governor of Anambra State despite not originally intending to serve beyond one term. He argued that Obi’s eight years in office failed to deliver the transformation he now promises on a national scale.

Onanuga also referenced Obi’s defection from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), despite previously pledging loyalty to the party. He said the move revealed a troubling pattern of political unreliability.

“You talk about trust,” Onanuga wrote, “but how do you expect people to trust someone who can’t keep a simple promise not to leave a political party?”
