News Corp will launch The California Post in 2026, bringing the New York Post’s tabloid flair to the West Coast. CEO Robert Thomson says the paper will offer “an antidote” to jaded local journalism.
News Corp has announced the launch of The California Post, a daily newspaper set to debut in early 2026 as a West Coast extension of the New York Post. Based in Los Angeles, the paper will feature the Post’s signature blend of “common-sense journalism, celebrity news, world-class sports reporting,” and its iconic front pages — but through a Californian lens.
The California Post will be led by editor-in-chief Nick Papps and supported by statewide reporters, in addition to resources from the New York Post. It will feature strong digital, audio, and video components.
“Los Angeles and California surely need a daily dose of The Post,” said News Corp CEO Robert Thomson. “Readers are starved of serious reporting and puckish wit.”
“The California Post will bring a common-sense, issue-based approach,” added New York Post editor Keith Poole. The launch comes amid struggles at the Los Angeles Times, as News Corp eyes a gap in local journalism.
